DIRTY SHINE

I woke up this morning to hear that Etta James had passed away at 73. I don’t know why people become artists, nor do I know why some artists have the ability to change people’s lives. I get up everyday with this insane passion for music. Whether I’m on the microphone, on the stage, or behind a soundboard, it’s where I fit, and Etta’s voice led me there. An effortless voice with grit, soul, and power. Etta had something that no other artist could replicate or touch. Some of the most amazing vocalists in the world have covered Etta James’ songs in the last few years, Christina Aguilera, Beyonce and many more, but even with their towering ranges and near perfect vocal runs, they don’t hit my heart like Etta did. She was the essence of the blues and one of, if not the biggest, influences on me in dedicating my life to music. I remember the first time I heard her voice, it was so sincere, so real. I felt like I knew her story. I put my life and my stories into my music with no hesitation because she showed me how. So today in honor of one of the greatest artists who ever lived I’m going to tumblr my top ten favorite Etta James songs. Love you Etta, RIP! Starting with number ten……Sunday Kind of Love
